The Journey of Natty Gann
When I began writing The Argent Myst Trilogy, I needed my vampire to have a companion. I went through the plethora of options that writing fiction allows me to consider...but I decided on using a wolf. I grew up owning dogs of all sizes, but I have always felt more at ease having a large canine by my side.
There is something about the unbreakable bond of a beloved pet that I wanted my character, Juliette to experience. I wanted to make her more relatable. Trying to relate to a vampire is difficult…but a dog lover, most of us know what that is like.
However, after Twilight came out...I seriously considered changing my wolf into another creature entirely, until I remembered why I chose the wolf in the first place. This is the book that influenced that decision. I LOVED reading this as a young girl. If you have never read or watched The Journey of Natty Gann, you are missing out. (It is currently available on Disney Plus.)
The story had several similarities to Argent Myst that I never fully realized until I revisited Natty Gann as an adult. It is remarkable how your brain can retain memories that you have not thought of in years. Natty saved her wolf, just as Juliette did. Natty and her wolf embark on a dangerous journey, fighting to protect one another…Juliette and her wolf Ambrosia do the same.
Ambrosia embodies the spirit of every pet that has touched my life. She brings a sense of security, loyalty, and unconditional love to my story that only a beloved pet can provide. I dedicate my wolf, Ambrosia to every fur baby that has crossed the rainbow bridge.
If only all dogs could live forever.
